From police quarters to a children’s playground.

Fridays after school, I would drop my bag off and run down the hill to the local park.
Packed with kids and chit-chat and laughter, I would stand and ponder for a while or two before timidly approaching the long line of eager kids waiting for their turn on the slide. After a couple rounds, boredom kicks as my gaze settles on the empty monkey bars in the corner. Keeping an anxious eye on my mother looking out in the distance, I would attempt, yet again, despite my mother’s warnings to climb across to the other side. And yet again – stuck between both ends seemingly miles away, legs frantically kicking the air – plunge into the concrete floor below.
