My name is Rachel Liu. I’m currently studying for a master’s degree in journalism at the University of Hong Kong. I previously graduated from the Communication University of China with a major in communication. My undergraduate studies had already paved the way for my mission by allowing me to establish a solid foundation in media and communication theories while honing my practical skills. Meanwhile, I used to be a campus reporter for the University News publication, and gained my first experiences in journalism, which make me realised the importance of journalism. Despite focusing on campus news, I was immensely proud of my achievement and yearn to explore diverse journalistic approaches. Furthermore, I took on an additional challenge of undertaking courses offered jointly by my university and the University of Missouri. Conducted in a unique Missourian Method, I put what I learned into practice, realised that journalism is a cosmopolitan profession, and the meaning of news professionalism. Beyond my studies, I seized work opportunities to polish my practical skills and find my career purpose. I worked at Tencent and Viva La Vida-NGO as an intern. This reaffirmed my desire for the intellectual challenge of exploring different schools of thoughts.
