Li Xukui
Student of Master of Journalism Programme
I’m Coy. My Chinese name is Li Xukui (李旭馗). In Chinese, my name means “a bright path”, which implies my parents’ best wishes for my life’s journey. What is even more ingenious is that there are two semi-circumscribed structures ” 九 ” in my name, which means “nine” in Chinese. And I was born in 1999. Structurally, my name also corresponds to my year of birth.
I was born in Qiqihar, a quiet and small city in Heilongjiang Province. Even though I won’t be returning to this small city for work in the future, this place shaped me, the Northeast of China still holds my deepest nostalgia. People here are funny, brave, and they walk slowly, not in a hurry like those living in big cities.
To get closer to my journalistic aspirations, I interned at Southern Metropolis Daily and Caixin during college. I hope I can learn more about news interviewing and writing to enhance my skills during my postgraduate studies at HKU.
