Hey everyone!
My name is Jay and I’m a Masters of Journalism student at the University of Hong Kong. Recently, I interned at NBC News, where I covered the Israel-Hamas war, pitched and wrote stories from the Asia-Pacific region, and also further developed my understanding of the role that social media plays in an international newsroom.
Previously, I’ve worked at Asia Sentinel, the Standard, Young Post, and Google. During my time at these companies, I’ve covered topics ranging from Hong Kong’s ethnic minorities, the city’s first ever fighter to compete in the UFC, and Hong Kong’s transgender youth, an often forgotten part of the city’s population.
During my undergraduate studies, I majored in International Journalism at the Hong Kong Baptist University, where I was a deputy editor for a student-run publication. I decided to come back and study my Masters at HKU, in large part due to the internship opportunities and desire to enhance my skills as a journalist.
For this course, I am hoping to improve my video journalism skills, gain experience working with different types of camera equipment such as drones and gimbals, as well as learn multimedia skills like creating a website on platforms such as WordPress.
