Nuisances Caused by Wild Pigs
in Hong Kong
The tables illustrate the relationship between the population of various districts in Hong Kong in 2023 and the incidents of people encountering wild pig nuisances.
Wild pigs are mammals commonly found in the mountains and wilderness of Hong Kong. Occasionally, there are reports of them wandering into urban areas in search of food. Due to the lack of natural predators, their numbers are steadily increasing. The issue of wild pigs in Hong Kong has become a matter of concern for citizens, particularly regarding nuisance incidents and the related management efforts by the government.
The following tables use the latest data to illustrate the relationship between the population of various districts in Hong Kong in 2023 and the incidents of people encountering wild pig nuisances. Overall, the number of wild pig nuisance incidents is negatively correlated with the population density of different districts in Hong Kong. However, despite this negative correlation, Tai Po, Sha Tin, and Sai Kung still experience significantly more nuisance incidents compared to other districts, especially in Sha Tin. Therefore, more focused wild pig control measures should be implemented in these areas.
