Ling Lyu
Ling is currently a student of Master of Journalism with Documentary Filmmaking Specialisation at HKU. She has done her Master of Philosophy in Visual Anthropology at University of Oxford, and her Bachelor of Arts in Theatre Studies at University of Warwick.
Born and raised in Chengdu, Sichuan, Ling spent most of her adult life in the UK and in academia, directing theatres, doing ethnographic research, and writing academic articles. She has a particular interest in performance, contemporary ritual and cinema, and the way in which their making, circulation and dissemination enable human beings to connect with one another.
Ling is now learning how to tell stories and create sceneries through the lens of documentary, as she is determined to become an anthropologist with a movie camera. Her upcoming short film looks at the Tanka people in Tai O.
Ling is also a performance artist, photographer, and climber.
