BOC Tower’s development
The Bank of China Tower (BOC Tower) in Hong Kong is an iconic skyscraper designed by renowned architect I.M. Pei. Construction began in April 1985, and it was completed in 1990, standing 315 meters (1,033 feet) tall with 72 floors. Its bamboo-inspired design symbolizes growth and prosperity, while the triangular glass façade highlights modernity and strength. Originally equipped with neon lights, the tower transitioned to energy-efficient lighting on January 27, 2025. As the first building outside the U.S. to exceed 1,000 feet, it remains a landmark of modern architecture and serves as the Bank of China’s Hong Kong headquarters.
