The TV Tower, completed in 1975, initially served ATV until its closure in 1978. It then became the production branch for TVB and later, in 1987, the headquarters for RTHK’s television department.
The Education Television Centre at 79 Broadcast Drive belongs to the Education Bureau. After RTHK ended its educational programming in 2020, the bureau reclaimed the center in September 2020, planning to relocate equipment and staff to offices in Queensway and Mong Kok.
In response to RTHK’s aging facilities, the government had reserved land in Tseung Kwan O for a new building as early as 2000. Construction resumed in 2009 after delays from financial issues and a public broadcasting review, allowing for the introduction of digital audio and terrestrial television services.
RTHK is the radio station where I interned during last winter vacation. During my internship at Radio 3, I got to know their history and radio culture in depth, and I also met very responsible teachers, which also helped me understand their history. This was a very rich and valuable experience for me.
