Internet users in Africa have continued to grow over the years

This map shows the number of internet users in select African countries as of January 2024.

Nigeria has the highest number of internet users in Africa, exceeding 103 million, making it one of the countries with the most internet users globally. 86.2% of its web traffic is generated via smartphones, while about 13.3% comes from PC devices. Egypt ranks second, with over 82 million users.

Projected trends in Africa indicate steady growth in internet users from 2024 to 2029. The continent is expected to gain 337.3 million new users (an increase of approximately 51.79%), reaching a historic high of 1.1 billion users by 2029. Despite this growth, Africa’s internet penetration rate is 43%, significantly lower than the global average (around 68%).

Regarding internet penetration rates, Morocco leads Africa at 91%, followed by Libya in second place with 88%, and Seychelles in third at approximately 86.7%.
