Employment in Hong Kong's Creative Industries

Creative industries are one of the most dynamic economic sectors in Hong Kong, contributing to economic growth and job opportunities. Hong Kong’s creative industries are mainly divided into eight categories, including advertising, architecture, design, digital entertainment, film, music, printing and publishing, and television.

From 2009 to 2022, the number of employment in the printing & publishing industry in Hong Kong showed a rapid decline, from 46,500 in 2009 to 29,390 in 2022, with the fastest decline from 2020 to 2022.

Employment in the digital entertainment industry has shown a rapid upward trend, rising from 15,410 in 2009 to 29,070 in 2022, with the fastest growth in 2016 to 2017. While employment in advertising decreased slightly and remained roughly unchanged. In 2012, the number of people employed in digital entertainment surpassed the number employed in advertising.
