Hong Kong’s first locally born giant panda twins, a sister and brother duo, were set to meet the public around Lunar New Year 2025! Born on August 15, 2024, the cubs have grown remarkably—from just 100-120 grams at birth to over 2.7 kg and 2.5 kg, now sporting their iconic black-and-white fur and open eyes. Ocean Park plans to livestream their daily lives by upgrading CCTV systems, allowing fans worldwide to watch their playful antics.
The siblings display distinct personalities: the sister is gentle and calm, while the brother has a more robust, ‘masculine’ voice. Their mother, Ying Ying, has regained 70-80% of her appetite post-birth and is praised as a dedicated parent, attentively caring for her cubs.
To ensure safety during nursing, keepers occasionally use golf clubs to gently separate the cubs from their much larger mother. The twins will stay with Ying Ying until age 2-3 before relocation plans begin. A heartwarming milestone for conservation!
