Hong Kong's Rising Crime Wave

Hong Kong’s crime rates keep rising. Government numbers show 90,276 crimes were reported in 2023 – over 20,000 more than 2022’s 70,048 cases. This is the highest number since 1997.

Many worry about public safety now. Knife attacks and violent robberies happen often. Some residents even call Hong Kong the “city of knife crimes.” People are questioning if police can handle regular crimes, as many officers are busy managing protests. Critics say this shift might be why crimes are increasing.
