Jiaqi Huang first learned storytelling from S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in broadcast and digital journalism with summa cum laude honors. Passionate about literature, cultures and arts, she also graduated with a minor degree in French and Francophone Studies.

From 2018 to 2020, she was a student reporter, anchor and producer for her college’s NCC News. She covered daily local news in Central New York and produced radio and television newscasts with her classmates on a weekly basis. In 2021, she worked remotely in mainland China as a student international correspondent and a student social media producer. She reported from Shanghai on the U.S. and China’s cooperation on climate changes and life in Shanghai after the one-year mark of pandemic. She also produced Instagram video newsbriefs for NCC News.

Jiaqi had also interned at some media outlets in mainland China. Her first summer internship was at Shanghai SMG TV News Center in 2016, where she learned live filming of children’s programs. In 2017, she participated in a creative digital marketing camp held by Want Want China Times Media Group in Taiwan and received the first prize with her team. In the summer of 2020, she was a trainee reporter with Jiangnan Evening Newspaper in Wuxi, Jiangsu.

Besides journalism practices, Jiaqi loves to research on literature. She is interested in seventeenth-and eighteenth-century French literature, especially in Molière’s comedies. She is also a soccer fan who had studied sports management at Syracuse University’s David Falk College of Sports and Human Dynamics.

Hoping to hone her journalism skills, Jiaqi is currently pursuing her MJ degree at the University of Hong Kong.
