Based in Hong Kong, David teaches and coaches lawyers, corporate executives and entrepreneurs, in the areas of investment, finance, accounting and SFC regulatory exams. After completing his first degree in Accounting and Computer Science at Heriot-Watt University, David trained and qualified as a Scottish Chartered Accountant with Ernst & Young. After spells as an auditor in the Middle East and Japan, David moved to Hong Kong in 1988 to develop Ernst & Young’s client training capabilities. In 1998, David joined Kaplan as Managing Director, responsible for both business operations and product delivery.
David has also spent much time starting and growing businesses, four of which continue to operate. His first venture was BruceRae, a property management company based in Edinburgh, Scotland, founded in 1994. In 2011, David set up ExecutiveKnowledge to help corporate executives learn more about investment, finance and financial management. In 2013, David co-founded Sertus Incorporations, an offshore corporate services provider, serving clients in China, Taiwan and Hong Kong. He operated as Chief Executive Officer for the first three years before taking up a non-executive director position. In 2016, David founded Examinator.online as an online platform for multiple choice exam question practice.
David has decided to move in a different direction and is currently a part-time student at the University of Hong Kong, studying on the Master of Journalism programme.
David completed his MBA at Cranfield School of Management in 1987, became a CFA Charterholder in 2000 and completed his PhD with the University of South Australia in 2008.
