Alyssa Yixin Chen started her journalism studies in Malaysia, where she earned a bachelor degree at Xiamen University Malaysia with the Distinction Award. In her final undergraduate year, she joined Cardiff University to study International Relations digitally.
During her three-year life in Malaysia, Alyssa served as the editor-in-chief in the school bulletin and is responsible for overseeing the whole production process. This experience gave her a systematic insight into the production of print magazines, from proposing topics, composing content, editing drafts, doing layout design, to the final publication. In the third year, Alyssa interned in an international PR agency serving B2B clients in the technology sector. But she found out that was not the right track for her. Therefore, she decided to go back to journalism. In her final undergraduate year, Alyssa enrolled in International Relations programmed offered by Cardiff University, acquainting herself with a structural and theoretical framework in the International Relations field, such as international relations theory, feminism, multilateralism, foreign policy analysis, and humanitarian intervention.
Alyssa now is pursuing a Master of Journalism degree at The University of Hong Kong. She hopes to polish her journalistic skillsets in a diverse range, from reporting, broadcasting to even podcasting. After graduation, she wishes to work in an international newsroom as a bilingual reporter to report alternative stories of the ordinary in this interdependent world and to narrow the gap of understanding across cultures and societies.
