Ayumi Fujimoto is a Post Graduate Journalism Student at the University of Hong Kong, she joined the Journalism and Media Study Center (JMSC) in September of 2021. Before that she completed her bachelor’s degree in South Korea where she majored in Political Sciences and Diplomacy.
Before moving to Hong Kong, Ayumi has lived for many years in Brazil, Italy, Japan, New Zealand and South Korea. She has always studied in local schools where she proudly managed to learn to speak all the official languages fluently. Her life experiences helped her to develop sophisticated language skills as well as the capacity to have neutrality when analyzing various situations.While in university, Ayumi has worked as a research assistant for many University Professors. Her daily tasks included translation, transcription and research. She developed strong research capability and she won a research project competition funded by the school with a group of friends. They travelled to Canada and completed a research project about sustainable development.
Being from an international background, Ayumi naturally has interests in international issues specifically in International Law. She studied international law for 2 years after graduating university to get a further insight on the subject. Her passion for international law is so strong that one of her hobbies constitutes spending weekend mornings reading ICJ cases. Ayumi is currently learning Cantonese as she is having the privilege to study in Hong Kong. Her broad perspective of the world and life experiences have helped Ayumi to become interested in studying journalism. She eventually wants to become a reporter focused on global politics and diplomatic affairs.
