About Kaleidoscope
Looking through the lens of a kaleidoscope transports us into a whimsical world of vibrant colours and endless possibilities. On the surface, it is just a simple toy. But, with a second look, it resonates as a metaphor for life’s never-ending changes. Ultimately, this is what makes our daily mundanities ever so exciting.
With this in mind, we decided to name our capstone website, Kaleidoscope, to encapsulate the hard work and exponential growth of the University of Hong Kong’s Master of Journalism Class of 2023. Only nine months ago, we entered this program with diverse backgrounds and experiences. United by a shared love for storytelling and innate curiosity, we gained key journalistic skills with thanks to the guidance of our incredible teaching staff. It is hard to believe that our journey is coming to an end, but we know all the diverse stories shared here well represents our learnings as we now embark on the next leg of our lives.
From uncovering niche communities in Hong Kong to investigating the pitfalls of our education systems, we hope you find a story that sparks a new seed of inspiration or shift in perspective. Our reporters conducted intensive research and in-depth interviews to produce these final projects in hopes of sharing their unique interests on life, people and the city with you. We have had the greatest pleasure learning from and working with these reporters – our paths as storytellers has only begun.
To our editorial and multimedia team that brought these projects to life – we are so proud of your commitment and dedication to producing these pieces in record time. It is not easy to translate someone’s vision to life, but this team did so efficiently and earnestly. We are grateful to have been able to work side by side with each and every one of you.
We would also like to thank our incredible advisors, Diana Jou and Foon Lee, for guiding us through this experience. This is the first time JMSC has had a production team for editing and producing final projects, and they have been patient and resourceful to ensure the process went smoothly.
As you explore this website, we hope that “the shifting patterns of the city” will inspire you to see our world in a new and creative way. We hope you enjoy these projects as much as we did!
To the JMSC Class of 2023, congratulations on all our success! We wish you all the very best in your future endeavours.
Kind regards,
