Hong Kong is widely regarded as a cosmopolitan city, but its identity is strongly influenced by Cantonese tradition, and the majority of its population is ethnically Han Chinese. Non-ethnic Chinese individuals can therefore face challenges in terms of their cultural identities and sense of belonging in the city. The efforts of ethnic minority community members are therefore instrumental in uplifting their communities and reshaping local values. This video will highlight the contributions of three individuals – Vivek Mahbubani, Rabia Aslam, and Novy Lodder – in driving meaningful change in Hong Kong.
