A Dress-up Party in Kowloon Park

For Indonesian maids in Hong Kong, Kowloon Park is more than just a resting place. Instead, it can be an excellent stage for them to be ideal selves.

On Sunday, around 30 Indonesian women gathered in a gallery in Kowloon Park, along with heavy cosmetics cases and exquisite clothes. Following the images downloaded from the internet, the amateurs put on makeup for their companions.

Although it took an average of three hours for makeup, they didn’t feel exhausted. Instead, they enjoyed the process of becoming beautiful. Later, they put on dresses and mantillas, showing the charm of the traditional clothing in Indonesia.

“The purpose we did it was only to entertain ourselves, as we took and saved our own pictures,” one of them said, adding that she wanted to dress up as Pengantin Barbie.

Working as maids during weekdays all around Hong Kong, these Indonesian women meet each other on weekends. They have held a variety of events in different places before, but dress-up parties remain their favorite.

“We come here several times, and Kowloon Park is a heaven for us,” they said, laughing and showing their masterpieces to each other.
